Though we can give complete credit of several fashion statements to Alexander McQueen, the charm of fashion accessory called Belts started much before that. In the times of war, belt was a remarkable asset to soldier and that legacy turned in to an important tool later for modern men. The idea of holding up the pants remained limited to the definitions and belts took a major responsibility of representing statements in fashion. Though it is hard to decide that which celebrity owns the most luxurious collection of belts, Dakota or Alexa? We can certainly tell that the first wearers of belt were army men of East European and Russian armies and they used it as a support to their physique. During the Crimean war in 19th century, the belt was used in pair with corset to define the smaller waist. Though, they received criticism from the cartoonists of the 1900s (in first world war), the trend was taken on by the soldiers later who felt that the belts were essential to hold weapons.
The traditions also indicate that ornaments were worn on belts sometimes to block attacks of the enemy and sometimes to take over the power. All he had to do is seize enemy’s belt.
As for women, they showed sound interest in the belts for fashion reasons and it was in 1910 until the present day. The trousers for women practically became a daily wear option and therefore, belt became a necessity along with it. As the time passed, the availability of materials and plenty of design ideas blessed the world of fashion with immense options in belts.

The variety of belts that we now see will even include silk but the idea of power has remained stuck to this accessory which is why the most preferred form is Leather Belts. Most modern day designers feature leather belt and that’s because the durability is unquestionable and the design definitions are more retainable on the leather material. Also, for men they are the only ones that can sync well with men’s formal attire. The most minimalist designs in the leather belts are noticeable when they perfectly live up to a man’s attire.
In the current scene, the designers and innovators are including the belts to add wearable tech in the collections. In a fashion show in Sep,2016,
a belt was included in the tech wearables and inset with the glasses, these are able to tell about brainwave activity and in simple human emotion.
No wonder, belt was chosen to do the job. The history tells that human emotion has always been attached to this accessory and in much important scenarios.
